About Patent Logistics, LLC

Patent Logistics, based in Chichester, New Hampshire (with an office on the island of Bonaire, in the Dutch Caribbean), provides a variety of patent and intellectual property services as detailed below. These services are provided mainly by Patent Logistics' principal, Jake Richter, a technologist, author, inventor, researcher, and patent specialist. (Click here for details of his background.)

  • Litigation Support
We provide a broad range of litigation support in the area of intellectual property and technology litigation in a number of key technology areas. See our litigation history
    for specifics.
    • Testifying Experts
    • Consulting Experts
    • Prior Art Research for Invalidity and Validity Issues
    • Training for Attorneys and Judges in Technological Matters
    • Infringement & Non-Infringement Analysis, Testing, and Reporting
    • Design of trial exhibits
    • Secure electronic client communications available
    • Expert declarations for use during patent re-examination

  • Research
While most research providers only work with certain key words, we make an effort to understand the technology involved so that we can provide a more thorough search and overview of the subject matter. We have access to a wide range of print and electronic publications, as well as fluency in German, to aid with a number of critical research activities.
    • Prior Art Searches
Such searches can be used to determine novelty prior to attempting to patent an invention, as well as to help enforce or debunk the validity of a patent. Prior Art Searches can be limited to just patents, with intelligent searching performed, not just in a given classification but with terminology known in the art, or can also include non-patent publications. Such searches may also turn up similar products or on-sale bars.
    • Technology Topic Searches
These searches aid inventors, other patent professionals, litigators, and most anyone else who are in need of a good foundation and grounding in a particular technology area. Results may include articles, how-tos, books, and other reference material, among other things.
    • Resources
In addition to access to all U.S. patents and patent publications, as well as Japanese patent abstracts and European patents, our research resources include conference proceedings in various technology areas, such as computer graphics, in some cases going back to the 1970s. Additionally, we have access to the entire historical archives of various computer and engineering societies and associations, as well as the more recent consumer and niche oriented publications dealing with computer technology and the Internet. For market and news oriented research, our resources include major U.S. newspapers and magazines going back over 25 years, along with press release archives. We also have access to many textbooks, even those out of print, in many fields.

  • Testing & Reverse Engineering
We offer a wide range of testing services to aid in the development of infringement or non-infringement positions via our Bonaire office. Product categories we can test include:
    • Computer Systems
    • Display Systems
    • Cameras (film or digital)
    • Photographic Techniques
    • Aquatic Equipment (for diving, snorkeling or commercial underwater use)
    • Internet Technology
    • Software

Our testing efforts can include developing test scenarios to address the issue at hand (including the development of test software and environments); preparation of reports; analysis of test results; and videotaping or otherwise recording the test procedures, should that be desired.

We are also capable of performing a number of reverse engineering functions, a key requirement in certain infringement analysis. Such reverse engineering may involve the use of debuggers, scopes, logic analyzers, and special investigative techniques and technology forensics, where necessary.

  • Analysis
Providing our clients with raw data, while certainly an option, is not always something our clients find sufficient. As such, we offer analysis services, where research results are analyzed with the client's needs taken into consideration. For example, in the case of an invalidity-oriented search, we can provide an expertly written analysis of the key items of prior art, providing in-line or hyperlink references to such, either in report or article form. This analysis can then be used internally or published in a desired forum.

We can also provide an on-going search on new materials being released, such as new patents being issued or patents being published under the 18-month rule, and provide an analysis to our clients on how such new inventions and proposed inventions may affect their businesses and offerings.

Other forms of analysis include reviewing forthcoming technology against existing patents to determine if infringement might exist, and suggest alternate means and methods to avoid potential infringement.

  • Technology Areas
We have expertise and experience in several useful technology fields, and offer all of the above services in these fields:
    • Computer Graphics Hardware & Software
    • Display Technology
    • Internet technologies
    • Computer Systems Architecture
    • Operating Systems
    • Digital Imaging
    • Photography & Photographic Techniques with film and digital equipment
    • Marine Engineering (Underwater Electronics, Signaling, Imaging)
    • Scuba Diving and Snorkeling Equipment and Techniques
